GNFS Nyinahin Recorded Zero Bush Fire in 2022 As A Result of RAIN’s Intervention
A district forum was organised for stakeholders in Nyinahin within the Atwima Mponua District to follow up on the commitments made during a previous meeting in March 2023, to help address issues on the illegal use of the forest and promote good forest and land governance in Ghana.
The forum brought together stakeholders including Traditional authorities, Atwima Mponua District Assembly, Forest Services Division, CHED of COCOBOD, Ghana National Fire Service and farmers from 28 communities within the district. Issues discussed centered on illegal mining, cocoa rehabilitation, restoration of degraded forest and halting of deforestation.
The Nyinahin traditional council, represented by Nana Bosompem Acheampong, reaffirmed that illegal mining is prohibited in their territory and issued a strong warning to all parties engaged in the practice to stop or risk the traditional authority's wrath.
Mr. Bondziedu Simon who was the representative for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for Atwima Mponua District, praised RAIN for supporting them to carry out sensitization within communities which resulted in achieving a target of zero bush fires in the year 2022.
He further called for support from other institutions to provide tools and equipment to enhance the formation of fire volunteer groups within the communities in the district to help prevent and management wildfires.
