As part of the Gower Street Project, RAIN is working to nurture a new generation of environmental leaders—starting in the classroom. In a recent visit to Patriensa M/A Junior High School, the RAIN team introduced students to the concept of climate change and shared the exciting idea of forming a school environmental club.
Although the school had previously engaged with RAIN, this session offered a fresh opportunity to deepen understanding and inspire action. Through an interactive presentation, students explored what climate change means, what causes it, and how it affects their daily lives—from farming and food to health and weather. The session encouraged participation, questions, and peer learning, turning a standard school day into a platform for meaningful dialogue.
To build on this momentum, RAIN shared stories and photos from environmental clubs it has supported in other schools. Students were excited by the possibilities—tree planting, clean-up activities, and becoming advocates for sustainable change in their communities. Interested students were invited to express interest through a designated teacher, laying the groundwork for a future club.
This engagement is just the beginning. RAIN looks forward to returning to support the formation of the club and to help students turn ideas into action. Because when young people understand their power, they don’t just learn about the environment—they protect it.
