“Yes! We Have a Vision For the Future”, International Day of the Girl Child 2024 Celebrated at Patriensa M/A JHS
The female students of Patriensa M/A Junior High School in the Asante Akim Central of the Ashanti Region were partnered to observe the International Day of the Girl 2024.
The session began with an introduction by Doreen Asumang Yeboah, who remarked that the day was more than simply a celebration, but also a reminder of their value, rights, and boundless potential. With an emphasis on the year's theme, "Girl's Vision for the Future," she emphasized that each young girl has unique talents and abilities, giving them the power to define their future, lead communities, and be a voice for change
The kids were further engaged in the theme-related Vision Board Exercise. Following a brief introduction of the activity and two sample boards to guide them through the process, they were given A4 sheets and colored pencils. They were then asked to picture and sketch what they hoped to become in the next 15 years. The girls enthusiastically participated in the activity, spending around 20 minutes creating their vision boards.
Their aspirations varied, with future career paths ranging from firefighters, doctors, and lawyers to engineers, businesswomen, soldiers, and police officers. Afterward, nine girls were randomly selected to present their vision boards, where they shared their dreams and goals for the future.
After the activity, the girls were urged to keep focused on their goals and reminded that the actions they make today will influence their future. They should believe in their abilities and work hard to make their ambitions a reality, since they are reachable with devotion and determination.
Overall, the activity was successful and impactful as the girls showed great creativity and thoughtfulness in their visualizations, demonstrating a clear understanding of the task their dreams.
The event was climaxed with a donation of reading books to the school to foster a culture of reading and learning among the students.
